Claude CodeClaude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool that runs in the terminal, understands a project's codebase, edits files, runs commands, and handles workflows such as tests, debugging and git operations through natural-language instructions. It is also available as IDE extensions (VS Code, JetBrains), a desktop app and a web surface, and is used by developers to build features, fix bugs and automate routine development tasks.

2

OpenCodeOpenCode is an open-source, MIT-licensed AI coding agent built by the team behind SST (now Anomaly), available as a terminal TUI/CLI, a desktop app, and IDE extensions. It is model-agnostic and works with many LLM providers or local models, letting developers explore codebases, plan changes, edit files, run shell commands, and use LSP and MCP integrations directly from their workflow.

DeepSeek HarnessDeepSeek Harness (CLI command `dsh`) is an open-source agent harness developed by DeepSeek AI, built on the Cordis kernel with an "everything is a plugin" architecture where models, tools, skills, sessions, sandboxes, storage, loops, scheduling and the UI are all swappable plugins. It runs as a local web UI (default http://127.0.0.1:3080), CLI and Python/TypeScript SDK, and is used for agentic coding and automation tasks such as reading and editing files, running shell commands, web search and orchestrating subagents. It ships several presets (Standard, Code/PTC, Minimal, Creator) and is currently in developer preview.

CodexOpenAI Codex is a coding agent from OpenAI that runs locally on a developer's machine, available as a terminal CLI (codex / codex exec), a macOS and Windows desktop app, and IDE extensions. It can explore repositories, edit files, run commands and tests, review diffs, and automate longer-running software engineering tasks.

5

ZcodeZCode is a free cross-platform desktop coding application built by Z.ai, available for macOS, Windows and Linux. It puts an AI agent at the center of a workspace that includes a file manager, terminal, Git panel and browser preview, so developers can plan, write, review and verify code across long-running multi-step tasks. It is tuned for Z.ai's GLM coding models but also supports bring-your-own-key access to third-party models and agent harnesses such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini.

KiloKilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent from Kilo (Kilo-Org), available as a VS Code extension, JetBrains plugin, and standalone CLI. It turns natural-language instructions into multi-step development work — generating and refactoring code across files, running terminal commands, debugging, and reviewing pull requests — with specialized agent modes and support for hundreds of different models.

7

magpiemagpie is an open-source menu bar app, TUI and CLI (written in Go by developer yetone) that shows every AI coding agent installed on a machine and the model each one is set to, letting users switch models with one click. It runs a local gateway that translates between OpenAI Chat Completions, OpenAI Responses, Anthropic Messages and Gemini formats, so agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Goose, Pi and Copilot CLI can run on any provider's models or on existing subscriptions.

Pi Coding AgentPi is an open-source, terminal-based AI coding agent created by Mario Zechner (badlogic) under the earendil-works/pi project. It runs locally in a project directory with a minimal built-in toolset (read, write, edit, bash) plus session management, and is designed to be extended with TypeScript extensions, skills, prompt templates, themes and shareable Pi packages. It works with many LLM providers and can be used interactively, in print/JSON mode, over an RPC protocol, or embedded via its SDK.

KimiKimi Code CLI is an open-source terminal-based AI coding agent from Moonshot AI, written in TypeScript and distributed via an install script or npm. It runs in the terminal and helps carry out software development tasks and day-to-day terminal operations — reading and modifying code, running shell commands, searching files, fetching web pages, and autonomously planning and adjusting its next steps based on feedback as it works. It also supports MCP servers, subagents, and editor/IDE integration through the Agent Client Protocol (Zed, JetBrains, etc.).
